Unsolved Crimes

1/1/2007 - Ashley Barker`s Death remains a Mystery

The 19 year old body was found on June 18, 2006 in the passenger seat of her silver 1998 Mitsubishi Galant in the 100 block of Lemoine Drive, located off of Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Barker was shot in the head.

Today, anyone driving down Ambassador Caffery Parkway near Hooter`s - where she was last seen alive - can see her face flash across a digital billboard.

Lafayette Crime Stoppers hopes the advertisement will lead to a tip in this case.  On the screen next to her face are the words, "Who Killed Ashley Barker?"

"The investigators are basically trying to develop some more leads in the case," said Sgt. Mark Francis, a Lafayette Crime Stoppers spokesman.

Francis said detectives approched Crime Stoppers with the idea for the billboard. Lamar Advertising offered the spot at a reduced rate and Crime Stoppers put up the money, Francis said.

Detectives are waiting on the return of physical evidence sent out of state, he said.

"The case is still wide open and we are still working on it, but we are just trying to develop some more information," Francis said.
